MORE PRIVILEGES FOR THE OLD: A customer is inquiring about the new Senior Citizens’ discount that Cotabato Light is offering to its qualified consumers.

 

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9994 entitled, “An Act Granting Additional Benefits and Privileges to Senior Citizens, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) hereby adopts and promulgates these rules to establish a process for a revenue neutral implementation of the Senior Citizen Discount and Subsidy Rates by electricity Distribution Utilities (DUs).

Cotabato Light as an electric utility will implement soon the law on Senior Citizen discount for electricity bill.  Sometime this January, 2011 the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) was published, and this new law will take effect fifteen (15) days after its publication.  As of January 25, Cotabato Light is now accepting applicants for Senior Citizen’s discount among its qualified consumers.

Under this new law, the residential-senior citizen customers may avail of five (5%) discount provided that the customer’s monthly consumption does not exceed one hundred (100) kWh of electricity.  The discount is applicable on per household bases regardless of the number of senior citizens residing therein.

Also, the applicants are required to submit documents to validate proof of age and citizenship, proof of residence, proof of billing and proof of authority (if applying through a representative).  The Residential Care Facilities / Institutions or Group Homes' Discount can avail fifty (50%) and must submit an approved DSWD accreditation.  //
